Les Worthington
Business Manager, Equanet
The only thing that pleases Les more than his team's outstanding performances is England winning the Ashes. Les knows from personal experience which is the more likely.
"I look after seven account managers, who look after big corporate accounts like Bloomberg and DecTel. I'm what you might call an old timer. I was Equanet's 20th employee when I joined in 1994. Lured by the dot com boom, I left in 2000, went walkabout, followed England to Australia, watched them get thrashed, went to New Zealand to recover, then came back to Equanet in 2005. The DSGi thing is great. My team can access much better prices, which gives it more clout in squeezing better payment terms – all very cash positive. Plus, with all the new maintenance engineering and software support, we have a broader sales offer with greater value-added. My team are my friends. Most, like me, are long stayers. We're incredibly loyal to one another. As a Business Manager I may not get the thrill of closing a deal, but I enjoy more security, and the satisfaction of watching people I've trained really come into their on. But best of all, I get to dress up as Spiderman on promotion days. The other Business Managers are Superman, Batman and Robin. No one wants to be Robin though, he's a sort of superhero hanger-on. We don't really do the hanger-on thing here."
